Etihad Airways touched down in Brazil for the first time on Saturday, with the launch of its inaugural flight between Abu Dhabi and Sao Paulo.

The flight, which also marked Etihad’s South American debut, landed at Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport at just after 4.30pm on 1 June 2013, marking the start of a new scheduled service direct to Brazil’s commercial capital.

The new Brazil service extends Etihad’s network to six of the world’s seven continents (all except Antarctica) and comes ahead of the country’s hosting of the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.

The new Sao Paulo route will now be operated three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) using a three-class Airbus A340-500 aircraft seating a total of 240 passengers – 12 in first class, 28 business class and 200 in economy.
