Etihad Airways has reported a 23% increase in traffic during 2014 compared to the previous year.
Almost 14.8 million people flew with the carrier last year, taking a 74% share of traffic in and out of Abu Dhabi International Airport. Combined with its partners the airline flies 82% of routes at the airport.
Its partnerships now account for 3.5 million of its passengers, an increase of 40% on 2013. New codeshare agreements signed last year include those with Air Europa, JetBlue, Philippine Airlines, GOL, SAS, Hong Kong Airlines and Aerolineas Argentinas.
The airline also added 10 new destinations to its own network in 2014 including Los Angeles, Zurich, Perth and Rome. Yesterday it welcomed its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner into its fleet.
“Our business model, which focuses on organic network growth, codeshare partnerships and minority equity investments in other airlines, continued to yield positive results in 2014 and surpassed our double-digit targets for passenger and cargo growth,” said James Hogan, president and CEO of Etihad. “We enter 2015 as a stronger, more dynamic airline that will continue to enhance the growth of Abu Dhabi as one of the world’s emerging aviation hubs.”
