Dubai has topped the charts for Expedia.com.
The online travel portal recently released results of its data analysis examining travel growth to UAE.
The research examined increase of airline passenger traffic and most popular flight origins, with London taking the lead over other key international hubs.
Expedia senior editor Eman Barhoumeh said: “We witnessed a notable rise of flights booked to the UAE in recent years. In particular, Dubai has firmly established itself as both a key tourist destination and business travel hub. This has been demonstrated by recent year-on-year growth of nearly 25% for travel. Additionally, Abu Dhabi International Airport also witnessed an increase along with Sharjah.”
Flight bookings to the UAE experienced a strong upsurge increasing just over 25% from 2013 to 2014. The most popular flight origin is London, with almost five times as many tickets sold compared with Manchester, ranking second. However, flight bookings into Abu Dhabi have risen by approximately 50% from 2013 to 2014. Bookings to Abu Dhabi are expected to continue as Expedia has recently seen a more than 10% increase in demand.
The data analysis also revealed that flight bookings made from Canada have experienced strongest development from 2013 to 2014, increasing 35%. Additionally, flights booked to Dubai from the UK have strengthened by 27% over the same two year period, and Saudi Arabia and France by 24%. Finally, flight bookings to surrounding Emirates have also recently increased over the past year, with a 17% boost in searches for Sharjah Airport.
