VisitBritain announced that the city of Liverpool will host ExploreGB in the Spring of 2016, as it seeks to double the number of participants in the years to come.
The national tourism agency, marketing Britain’s nations and region overseas, has ambitions to grow ExploreGB into one of the significant events of the national tourism calendar.
The announcement comes as VisitBritain celebrates the conclusion of the inaugural ExploreGB trade event, in which 261 suppliers met with 250 overseas buyers at Ascot Racecourse to broker new business deals and increase international tourism numbers across Britain.
For the last four days, the 250 buyers from 40 countries, along with local MPs and influential overseas media were escorted on familiarisation trips across Britain to grow product knowledge, raise awareness and ultimately increase tourism numbers across the nations and regions.
The VisitBritain chief executive, Sally Balcombe, said: “We’ve started well, but we will grow. I’d like to see almost double the buyers within five years, and, for this increasingly influential event to travel across the country each year.”
