Plans to allow extra flights from Heathrow have been stopped by the Government. Transport Minister Theresa Villiers told the Commons that planes would not be allowed to take off and land on both runways at the same time, according to a Daily Telegraph report. This ‘mixed mode’ would have increased Heathrow’s flight schedule from 1, 315 to 1, 479 a day. BAA accepted the decision as it has warned that Heathrow is at ‘bursting point’. In another move, the Department of Transport has lifted the ban on taking off from Cranford.
