Why did The Wellesley decide to launch this super-luxurious yacht offering?
MY The Wellesley is a way to enhance and extend The Wellesley’s luxury offering; it gave us the opportunity to take the tailored experience of the hotel to the high seas and sunnier climates. Dennis Irvine Studio – designer for the interiors of The Wellesley – fashioned the interiors of the yacht too, so we ensure that any guest accustomed to the Art Deco glamour of the hotel experiences a seamless transition. With a live in crew of 12 ready to cater to guests needs, any request is satisfied as if they were ashore.
What type of guests do you expect to charter this yacht and for what occasion?
Our guests and their desires are varied, but MY The Wellesley can host up to 12 guests, in addition to the 12 crew. It has the flexibility to visit any port in the Mediterranean or Caribbean, and it’s very much a leisure charter. The Club Lounge is home to an on-board humidor showcasing a collection of some of the finest cigars in the world, and the dining room is ideal for celebrating family events or enjoying afternoon tea – there are two outdoor dining areas too. There is also a BBQ grill, bar and outdoor cinema, so the possibilities are quite extensive.
Where is the yacht moored and where will it sail?
MY The Wellesley spends her summers in the Mediterranean, and winters in the Caribbean. Popular destinations with our guests include St Tropez and Monaco, but she can sail to a huge selection of destinations.
What trends are you noticing in terms of demand for uber-luxurious experiences?
A key trend in ultra-luxury is the increasing demand for experiential luxury. Travellers are seeking adventure and excitement, and this is an area in which MY The Wellesley truly comes into her own. It’s such a fantastic way to see a wide range of stunning destinations, while also enjoying the incredible onboard amenities; whether its smoking a cigar on the deck overlooking the sea, or taking a ride on the jet skis at sunset.
Additionally, a personal service remains key. As technology becomes more ingrained in our everyday lives, travellers are still seeking that human touch – an aspect which will always remain an important part of our offering. Our crew of 12 ensures that this demand is met.
How will this yacht offering set you apart from other high-end properties in Knightsbridge?
The very fact that The Wellesley owns a superyacht is enough to set it apart from many of its competitors. However, the key advantage is that guests of The Wellesley have the option to transport their hotel experience abroad; to sea, sun and various cultures. There is no doubt in their minds that they will receive the same level of luxury service that they are accustomed to, and know they can transport this wherever in the Mediterranean or Caribbean oceans they desire.
