A new train service between Hong Kong and Shangai or Beijing is being promoted for its passenger-friendliness, with facilities to kill boredom on the 20-hour ride.
“We like passengers to feel they are at home on board the train, so that the 20-hour journey is far from boring but becomes a sightseeing experience,” said a spokesman for Hong Kong’s MTRC, which sells tickets for the trains owned and operated by Shanghai Railway Administration.
The Standard reported that the facilities include an ensuite toilet, wardrobe space, safes, two flat- screen television sets, multi-standard electrical sockets and internal telephones. Those in deluxe soft sleeper suites can order room service, it added.
The new trains carries 346 passengers on the Beijing route and 376 on the Shanghai route. Demand for this service is expected to peak as the Olympic Games in Beijing draws nearer, the report said.
