Lisbon scored the top place for the UK’s most booked city destination for the Christmas holiday, according to new data uncovered by online travel agent Opodo.
With an 48% increase in bookings, Portuguese capital Lisbon has seen a rise in interest from UK travellers looking to escape the UK for the festive season. The city’s food scene, nightlife and mild weather, combined with the rustic charm of its cobbled streets and colourful buildings, has made it a popular choice for foodies, art lovers, culture seekers and party-goers.

For the New Year period, the craic of the Irish, cosy pubs playing live music and of course Guinness have made Dublin the number one choice for UK flyers. The capital of the Republic of Ireland was closely followed by Spanish destinations Tenerife and Malaga, Icelandic capital Reykjavik and ever-present in British travel, Paris.

The data also uncovered that for year-on-year growth in interest, Cyprian port city Larnaca is enjoying a spike in tourism with an increase of 161% compared to 2017, as is the Greek capital Athens with 119% and Finnish capital Helsinki with 56%.
