The Finnair text message check-in service can now be used for departures from London and Manchester.
Text message check-in is a service offered to Finnair Plus members, enabling frequent flyers to go directly to the departure gate, by-passing the normal check-in procedure, if they are only travelling with carry-on baggage. If the customer has baggage to be carried in the hold of the aircraft, this should be left at the Baggage Drop desk in the departure hall.
“Our text message check-in service is very popular among our passengers, as it speeds up airport formalities. Our aim is to incorporate continually more destinations in our network into this service,” says Markku Remes, who is responsible for Finnair’s customer experience.
The service is automatically available to Finnair Plus members after their mobile phone number is updated in their Finnair Plus profile. The check-in must be accepted by returning the letter A (accept).
For flights departing in the morning, Finnair sends a check-in text message the previous evening between 17:00 and 19:00, and for flights departing in the afternoon, the message is sent around 3 hours before departure time.
In Finland and Sweden the passenger shows the confirmation message at airport service points. On departure from London, Manchester or Copenhagen, a mobile boarding pass is shown to the authorities. The mobile boarding pass can be opened through a link included in the message and is presented in a 2D barcode format.
Until now Finnair Plus members have been able to check-in by SMS to Finnair and Finncomm Airlines flights departing from Finland and to Finnair scheduled flights from Stockholm, Gothenburg and Copenhagen, including possible connecting flights on Finnair or Finncomm from Helsinki.
The easy-to-use SMS check-in service works on all telephone models and with all operators. The phone has to be equipped with a functioning Internet connection to open up the mobile boarding pass.
The service is not available for code-share flights operated by Finnair
partners, Finnair Leisure flights, Finnair Plus award flights and journeys that include a connecting flight with another airline.
