Finnair has confirmed plans to equip its entire fleet of aircraft with in-flight Wi-Fi.
The roll-out, which will cost EUR30 million (US$32.8m), will allow passengers on all of the airline’s long- and short-haul flight to connect to the internet using their smartphones, tablets and laptops.
“This investment will enable us to offer a wide array of new services to our customers, ranging from in-flight entertainment to in-flight sales and ancillaries,” said Pekka Vauramo, Finnair’s CEO.
Finnair will start offering in-flight Wi-Fi service in autumn 2015, with the arrival of its first new Airbus A350 aircraft. Then in 2016, the company will start installing Wi-Fi on its existing aircraft, including all short-haul Airbus jets and long-haul A330 aircraft.
The full roll-out is expected to be completed by 2018.
