Finnair has reported its performance results for April 2011, with traffic on Asian routes surging 34.1% year-on-year, when measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK). This was still not sufficient to keep up with a 47.0% hike in seat capacity however, causing load factors to drop 6.7 percentage points to 69.8%. The April results were affected by the downturn in traffic seen in April 2010 following the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Worldwide, Finnair’s RPK increased 37.8% year-on-year on April 2011, with load factors dipping 2.5 points to 69.3%.
