Finnair’s passenger traffic rose by 1.8 per cent last month, as growth picked up from outside of Finland. The airline also filled 81.4 percent of available seats in March, 8.9 per cent more than a year earlier. “The focus of business travel demand has shifted to outside of Finland. Long-haul traffic business class sales in particular are clearly better than before. The price level of flight tickets is still low, however,” said Finnair’s SVP Communications Christopher Haglund. The small growth in traffic comes as leisure flight demands decline to more than 30 per cent. Despite this, Finnair carried around 700,000 passengers in March, a 10 per cent increase from last year. Asian traffic also saw a growth in traffic last month to 27 per cent, compared to North America’s 25 per cent growth and Europe’s 11 per cent. Of Finnair’s scheduled flights in March, around 84 per cent arrived on schedule, a slight improvement from the year before. The punctuality of overall traffic dropped from 6 per cent to 82 per cent.
