Firefighters put out a fire at Address Hotel Dubai Mall last week.
An electrical short circuit was to blame for the blaze, which broke out on the roof of the property late Thursday night, according to state news agency Wam.
No one was injured in the fire, which was “brought under control in record time” by Dubai’s Civil Defence service.
Lt Col Ali Al Mutawa, director of operations at the Department of Civil Defence, praised the professionalism of the security and safety staff at the hotel who quickly evacuated the residents of the 26th floor.
The Government of Dubai Media Office confirmed through its Twitter account on Thursday that the “small fire reported at The Address Hotel Dubai Mall was extinguished immediately. The situation is back to normal”.
However, it marks the second Dubai property operated by Emaar’s hospitality division, Address Hotels + Resorts, to have caught fire this year.
The first and much more devastating blaze swept through The Address Downtown Hotel on New Year’s Eve. The property, which is located on the other side of Dubai Mall, was gutted and is currently under repair.
An electrical short circuit was blamed for this blaze too, while the hotel’s cladding was found to be flammable.
Cladding manufacturer Mulk Holdings recently confirmed it had ceased production of the controversial plastic-core cladding material following a number of blazes thought to be related to this flammable product.
It comes ahead of the release of a revised UAE Fire and Life Safety Code.
