The opening of the Noor Mahal five-star luxury hotel in Karnal, Haryana, marks a watershed in the life of the hospitality industry in India.
With 122 rooms, the hotel has elaborate convention facilities, boasting an 18000ft2 banquet hall, as well as smaller function rooms, large lawns and parking for 700 cars.
The hotel is not yet fully operational as just half the rooms are currently operatinosal, but the remainder are expected to welcome guests before the end of the year.
For added luxury, the hotel earns its five-star status with various F&B options and its 7th Heaven Spa and Wellness Centre and swimming pool.
It is the first five-star hotel in a non-tourist destination, explains Manbeer Choudhary, Chairman and Managing Director of Jewels Group of Hotels. While rival hoteliers have opted to go to Delhi, Chandigarh, Ambala, Yamunanager or Kurushetra, Choudhary sees great potential in this touristique backwater.
“My studies have shown that there is a huge MICE market waiting to be tapped,” he remarked. The area has some important generating markets, like Panipat oil refinery, Basmati rice units, agricultural institutions, as well as dairy and soil research organisations, which will act as a good market source for conventions, exhibitions and meetings, says the CMD.
A few years ago a five-star hotel in a Tier III city was out of question but now, with imaginative planning and execution, Noor Mahal promises to dispel this myth, as the locals and visitors alike get to taste the luxury and comfort of Noor Mahal.
