Flight cuts take toll on Thai traffic

The month of June saw a significant slowdown of air traffic in Thailand,the Bangkok Post has reported. Flight cuts and rising prices have caused June’scombined passenger traffic to grow only 3.9% compared to June 2007, down fromMay’s 8.9% growth. Total aircraft movements in June saw a 1.3% decline,year-on-year, compared to 3.8% growth a month earlier. The results come fromthe combined figures of Thailandsix major airports; Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Raiand Hat Yai. 4.21 million last month, released by the Airports of Thailand Plc(AoT).
In real terms, combined passenger traffic through the airports was4.21 million in June, compared to 4.56 million in May and 5.04 million inApril. Combined aircraft movements declined to 30,607, from 33,356 in May and33,779 in April.
Bangkok’s international hub, Suvarnabhumi, showed a mixed monthly pattern,with a 19.3% reduction in domestic movements (to 30,418) the result of severalThai carriers cutting routes. However international movements grew 4.30% to100,070.
