Alliance Air, the regional subsidiary of Air India, has launched a new route to Mysore (also known as Mysuru), in Karnataka state.
The city was left without any flights after SpiceJet withdrew its Chennai-Mysore service in October last year. Kingfisher also briefly operated daily flights to the Mysore, but pulled out when it encountered financial problems in 2011.
Mysore’s Mandakalli Airport was rebuilt in 2010, with a new runway able to handle jet aircraft like the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737. Alliance Air however, will serve Mysore with a smaller ATR turboprop aircraft.
Flights will run six days a week direct to and from Bengaluru.
