Dubai, U.A.E., May 11, 2010 - Another week and another new route for flydubai. This time Dubai’s first low cost airline, has announced flights to the Indian city of Lucknow.
flydubai’s much anticipated entry into one of the world’s fastest growing economies is a hugely significant milestone for the airline, which is still in its first year of commercial operations. Today’s announcement is the seventh new route announcement in one month, bringing flydubai’s rapidly expanding network to an impressive 20 destinations.
Flights to the north-east city of Lucknow, the capital of India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh, will operate thrice weekly from June 2, 2010. A one-way fare including all taxes and one piece of hand luggage is priced at AED500.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said: “India represents an important market for flydubai and we are delighted that the cooperation between flydubai and the Indian authorities has resulted in the opportunity for Dubai’s first low cost airline to bring our simple, uncomplicated, quality low fare service to Lucknow.
“We hope to continue to work closely with the Indian authorities to the benefit of both our countries and in time expand our operations to serve more Indian cities which are currently underserved by direct links to the UAE.
“An estimated five million Indian expatriates live and work in Gulf, with around one million in the UAE alone. This represents a huge number of people who need to travel between our two nations and we look forward to complementing the services offered by the existing carriers on the Dubai-India routes.
“Lucknow is known as the Golden City of the East, and we certainly regard the city as a golden opportunity to strengthen the business, leisure and economic ties between India and the UAE.”
Lucknow is the second largest city in north, east and central India after Delhi. It is among the top 10 fastest growing cities in the country with interests in manufacturing, commerce and retail. It is also a centre of higher education and research.
Al Ghaith added: “flydubai is responding to a shortage of direct international flights to Lucknow. India is an extremely important market for us and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership.”
The new service, FZ433, will operate thrice weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, departing Dubai at 2030hrs and arriving in Lucknow at 0150hrs local time the following day. The return flight, FZ434, which operates on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, departs at 0235hrs and arrives in Dubai at 0520hrs local time.
