Flying from Delhi, Mumbai may be costlier

Indian air fares may be coming down, but travellers flying out of Delhi and Mumbai airports may be seeing additional fees to fund the airports’ development, The Times of India has reported.
Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) has cited a shortfall of about INR20 billion (US$407 million) in the INR98 billion development plan and sought Aviation Ministry approval to levy an airport development fee (ADF) to bridge the gap.
MIAL is hoping to impose a INR200-300 and INR1,000 per passenger ADF for domestic and international passengers respectively, according to The Times. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has already sought to impose the charge. DIAL has reportedly told the Ministry that its funds will dry up in just over a month and that the expansion project will suffer unless an ADF is imposed.
