Thick fog blanketed Beijing yesterday, delaying flights out of the city, reports said.
Most flights out of Beijing’s airport were delayed, according to an unnamed official at Beijing Capital International Airport, The Standard reported.
All flights scheduled before 9am were postponed by one hour.
Other flights were delayed by up to three hours as planes had to wait to be defrosted, the newspaper quoted the state broadcaster CCTV as saying.
It said visibility on roads was reduced to less than 500 metres in some urban areas. Traffic on roads into the capital were also brought to a standstill.
Snow fell on the city for the first time this winter season and nearly 1,900 workers were dispatched to clean up the streets.
