Four investors are expected to compete for the license to operate a new low-cost carrier in Oman, according to Oman’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA).
The sultanate is looking to challenge other regional LCCs such as flydubai and Air Arabia who currently dominate the LCC market in Oman.
PACA chief executive, Salim Al Aufi told The Times of Oman that PACA may award the contract either to a local private company or a subsidiary of state-owned carrier Oman Air.
If the licence is awarded to a private company the airline could be listed on a stock market within seven years, Aufi asserted.
