The fourth edition of Eco Expo Asia, Hong Kong’s only trade fair devoted to the Asian environmental protection industry, will open from 28 to 31 October at AsiaWorld-Expo. The four-day event scales new heights this year to feature nearly 190 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions and will run in conjunction with the HSBC Eco Asia Conference. The Honourable Edward Yau, JP, Secretary for the Environment of the Government of the HKSAR, will be the Guest of Honour to officiate the opening ceremony.
Substantial increase in national and regional pavilions as well as strong buyer delegation turnout
Adopting the theme of “Transforming the Pearl River Delta into a green and quality living area”, the 2009 fair has attracted a large pool of exhibitors wanting to capitalise on the market potential of the region. This has led to a record-breaking number of national and regional pavilions from Dongguan, the European Union, Foshan, France, Fujian, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen and the United Kingdom. Exhibitors in these pavilions will showcase their respective areas of environmental expertise. The Chinese mainland pavilions, in particular, will highlight the many green investment opportunities available in the Pearl River Delta region.
Strong turnout of buyer delegations reflects the growing international reputation of Eco Expo Asia. Buying missions originating from Chile, Fuzhou, Germany, Guangzhou, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia, Shanghai, Shenzhen, South Africa, Vietnam and the USA have confirmed their attendance this year.
2009 highlights include new thematic zones, product launches and informative seminars
Visitors to Eco Expo Asia will be amazed by the variety of cutting-edge technologies on display. The new Electric Vehicle Zone will include the febe i-MiEV from Mitsubishi, the dual mode plug-in hybrid vehicle F3DM from BYD and the plug-in hybrid from CLP Group, E-motocycle, E-bike, related accessories and battery packs.
Equally attractive will be some new product and technology launches taking place this year. Inagrosa from Spain will introduce their new technology package for the biofuel industry; Minima Technology from Taiwan will roll-out special heat resistant biodegradable products; Notox from Denmark will launch a new type of porous substrate material for on- and off-road application; while Envac from Sweden will showcase their new automated waste collection system.
In addition, the HSBC Eco Asia Conference will run in conjunction with the fair from 28 to 30 October. The panel this year is made up of international and local experts in Green Production, Green Transportation and Green Building. An added feature of the Conference will be the Sino-French Seminar on Housing & Building Energy-Efficiency in China, which is scheduled to take place on 29 October. Specialists from France and Hong Kong will share their expertise and experience on building energy-efficiency.
In order to promote the concept of sustainability and green living to a wider audience, the last day of the fair - 31 October will be open to the general public. Three Public Day Forums will be held to address various environmental issues of global concern, including:
“Smart Saving Tips for Low Carbon Living” by Mr Kalmond Ma, Head of Pearl River Delta (PRD) Regional Programme, The Climate Group
“Act Now - Fight Against Global Warming” by artists Mr Sammul Chan (moderator), Miss Bernice Liu, Miss Kay Tse and Professor Lung Sang Chan, Department of Earth Sciences, The University of Hong Kong
“Climate Change - Will ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ Come True?” by Ms Christine Loh, Co-founder and CEO of Civic Exchange
Moreover, visitors to the fair on the public day will be able to test drive/ride the first Hong Kong-developed MyCar electric vehicles. Registered public over age 18 and with valid driving license can drive the electric vehicle. Those who do not have driving license can be the passengers of the electric vehicle. Please go to the fair website for pre-registration and enjoy this new eco experience.
