Airlines have warned some passengers will be left stranded at airports tomorrow (10 October) when a French air traffic controllers strike is carried out.
Most unions called off industrial action against Single European Sky agreements when the European Commission (EC) agreed to discuss terms, but those in France have decided to continue with strikes anyway.
In strikes on 13 June by French ATCs 40% of flights were cancelled, with disruption expected tomorrow if action goes ahead.
Airport and airline associations released a joint statement saying the union has “no justification” to strike and called for the action to be stopped.
The AEA, EBAA, ELFAA, ERA and IACA said: “There can be no justification for European air travellers being grounded. The strike is unacceptable. We welcome the decision made by the European trade unions to cancel the strike and enter into discussions with the European Commission. We urge the French air traffic controllers to stop this unnecessary action and engage in the negotiations. It is the responsibility of all stakeholders to work together in order to achieve the timely implementation of the Single European Sky.”
