AirAsia has decided to reward the ASEAN region’s Olympic gold medal-winning Olympians with free flights for life.
Thai weightlifters Sukanya Srisurat and Sopita Tanasan, Indonesian badminton stars Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, Vietnamese shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh, and Singaporean swimming sensation Joseph Schooling will all now be able to travel with AirAsia and AirAsia X for the rest of their lives without having to pay for a ticket.
The region’s silver and bronze medallists will be offered free flights for five and two years respectively.
“I was blown away by the performances from Asean athletes,” said AirAsia’s group CEO, Tony Fernandes. “They proved we can achieve anything as long as we believe in ourselves and work tirelessly towards our dream. This is the least we could do for them.”
Rio 2016 was a successful Olympics for ASEAN, with both Singapore and Vietnam winning their first ever gold medals.
