Cunard is taking a fresh approach to its 2013 programme as it introduces two-night taster sailings, expands the season of its northern voyages and makes changes to its Transatlantic crossings.
In 2013 the line will offer 13-two night sampler sailings between Southampton and Hamburg aboard Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth taking advantage of the growing demand for short breaks, and to offer the opportunity for new cruisers curious about Cunard to test the water before committing to a longer option.
Reflecting heightened demand, the number of Northern voyages now offered has been increased from 25 to 27 with nine Baltic, six Fjords, four North Cape, four Low Countries, two Iceland and two Round Britain sailings.
Cunard’s signature Transatlantic programme will be freshened up. The line will operate 18 crossings aboard Queen Mary 2, with four complete round-trip voyages from Southampton which feature a full day in the Big Apple with no need to fly. Brand new for 2013 will be two eight-night Transatlantic sailings with a whole extra day for passengers to enjoy the facilities onboard the Queen Mary 2.
In 2013, Queen Elizabeth will continue to offer premium-quality British fly-voyage programme to the Mediterranean with flights to and from Venice, Rome and Athens.
In total Cunard’s three ships will offer 106 voyages visiting 99 ports of call in 35 countries, of which 17 ports will be maiden calls. Brand new destinations include Isafjordur in Iceland, Salerno in Italu and Torshavn in the Faroe Islands with all three Cunarders offering overnight stays in 2013 at ports including St Petersburg, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Venice, Madeira and Quebec.
Commenting on the 2013 programme, Peter Shanks, president and managing director for Cunard said: “The award –winning ships of the Cunard fleet continue to turn heads and set the standard of ocean-going luxury wherever they sail. For 2013, we have placed a particular emphasis on attracting newcomers with our series of two-night voyages, while our expanded Northern programme is in response to positive passenger feedback for our Scandinavian, Icelandic, Round Britain and Low Countries sailings. We expect Cunard’s reputation for unhurried relaxation on board to remain unchallenged in 2013.”
