Further security for China airports (lead)
Extra checks will be launched at Chinese airports as authorities ratchet up security for the Olympics, the Shanghai Daily has reported. From 20 July all people – even non-fliers – passing through the main entrances of several domestic airports will be searched for flammable liquids and other dangerous goods according to the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC). Passengers boarding flights will then need to pass a second security check. The CAAC has advised passengers to arrive for flights as early as possible to avoid missing flights. The measures will be imposed at airports in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Xinjiang, Tibet and 13 others locations across the country.
The new checks add to existing security measures such as the banning of carrying liquids on to flights, limiting the number of batteries passengers can take on board, and removal of shoes at airports. In addition, all international flights to Beijing now need to report the personal information of passengers to the Beijing authorities prior to landing.
