Galaxy to pay US$366m for a Macau casino

Galaxy Entertainment Group has agreed to pay Macau’s government about HK$2.84 billion (US$366 million) for its hotel-casino building site on the Cotai strip, Bloomberg has reported. Macau recorded a total of 261,349 package tour visitor arrivals in July 2009 - a 35.7% decline from the same month in 2008, according to a Xinhua report, citing data from the city’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). Of the visitor arrivals, those from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Japan dropped by 42.2%, 20.4% and 7.1% respectively. Package tourists from Hong Kong however, increased by 7.1%.
