Construction work has commenced on Resorts World Las Vegas, a new Chinese-themed integrated resort being created by Malaysia’s Genting Group.

Marking the first new development on the Las Vegas Strip in nearly a decade, Resorts World Las Vegas is expected to open its doors in 2018. Once complete, this vast complex will include three hotels, multiple restaurants, retail outlets, nightlife venues and more than 9,200m² of gaming space.

The property is being designed to cater for the rising number of Chinese visitors to Las Vegas. Genting said it plans to offer an “authentic Chinese theme with… rich cultural attractions, varied cuisine and jaw-dropping entertainment from China’s many diverse regions and ethnic groups”.

“After 50 years of developing integrated resorts all around the globe, we are thrilled to be breaking ground on the Las Vegas Strip,” said KT Lim, chairman & CEO of the Genting Group.

“Las Vegas is known for its world-renowned resorts, and the Genting Group looks forward to being a part of the city’s continued growth by creating a huge national and international draw with this Chinese-themed world-class resort.”

Brian Sandoval, governor of Nevada, said Genting’s new project would provide a significant economic boost to the US state. Once in operation, Resorts World Las Vegas is expected to generate more than 13,000 direct and indirect jobs, in addition to “30,000 person-years” of employment during construction.

“With the beginning of construction of Resorts World Las Vegas, the Genting Group will be creating thousands of new jobs in our state and will generate billions of dollars in new economic activity that will benefit all Nevadans,” Sandoval said.
