The Ghan luxury passenger train in Australia is planning to capture a slice of the top tourism trade, Northern Territory News reported.
A Platinum Service is to be introduced on the 3,000km trip between Darwin and Adelaide.
“Platinum cabins will be approximately twice the size of our standard Gold twin cabins, with each room offering deluxe accommodation, including double beds, a spacious ensuite and 24-hour room service,” Great Southern chief executive Tony Braxton-Smith was quoted saying.
“This is without a doubt the most important development for rail tourism in Australia since the launch of The Ghan to Darwin.”
Braxton-Smith was quoted saying that the new service had been inspired by some of the most elegant rail journeys in the world, including the Blue Train (in South Africa) and cross-continental Trans-Canadian rail.
“We benchmarked ourselves with The Blue Train. We are looking to parallel that.”
