Goa, Saturday 19th September, 2009: To mark the annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) event, Goa Marriott Resort in collaboration with Don Bosco students conducted and participated in a Beach Cleaning drive on September 19, 2009. They worked hand in hand with the Indian Coast Guard to clean a large stretch of the Miramar beach frequented by citizens. This venture was to singularly highlight the world’s largest one-day volunteer effort to clean the marine environment.
Every September, hundreds of thousands of people in more than 75 countries remove millions of pounds of trash from waterways and beaches all over the world during Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup. ‘Ocean Conservancy’ is a non-profit organization that promotes health and diverse ocean ecosystems through research, education and science. To support this international movement, approximately 70 Goa Marriott Resort associates participated in the process of ridding the Miramar beach segment of trash and debris. The waste scrap was segregated and handed over to the Municipal Corporation for recycling purposes.
