Goa Tourism is planning to boost its share of the Indian wedding sector.
The tourism board will host a major event in Delhi next month to showcase its wedding facilities. Taking place in the Indian capital from 16 to 17 August 2014, the inaugural ‘Goa Wedding Show’ will bring together exhibitors from a range of sectors, including wedding planners, hotels and resorts, event companies, fashion and jewellery designers, travel agencies, photographers and hair and make-up artists.
“The Indian wedding market is valued at US$38 billion a year and is expected to grow 25-30% annually,” said Shri Dilip Parulekar, Goa’s Minister of Tourism.
“We hope that this initiative will serve as a platform to bring together the best of Goa and showcase what makes the state such a viable wedding destination. We are optimistic about the success of this event and plan to make it an annual property.”
The promotion of wedding tourism follows the recent launch of a new tourism masterplan for Goa, through which the state says it wants to focus on attracting the “right type of tourist”.
Destination weddings are a lucrative market for resorts, as they can several days and often play host to hundreds of guests.
“With a wide range of options right from beaches to quaint churches, picture perfect beaches and majestic forts serving as a backdrop for couples to live their dream wedding, the wedding tourism market in Goa is definitely on an upward swing,” Goa Tourism said in a statement.
