The Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC) chief executive Paul Wait has joined the advisory board of a one-day event looking at UK airport capacity.
Wait will now advise the Runways UK event ahead of its debut conference on 16 January 2014, where it will examine the Airport Commission’s interim report into airport capacity.
“Runways UK is very relevant to the GTMC. We have lobbied for some years on the urgent need for additional air capacity in the UK and our submission to the Airports Commission focussed on providing a short term solution, through the introduction of mixed mode at Heathrow and the protection of existing night flight capacity,” said Wait. “Runways UK will provide a platform for debate on the concepts that have been shortlisted by the Commission and I am delighted to be able to contribute to the planning of the event and participate on the day.”
Runways UK is expected to become an annual event and has been supported by the Airport Operators Association, the British Air Transport Association, the Board of Airline Representatives in the UK, the International Air Rail Organisation, British Aviation Group and London First along with the advisory board. The board is chaired by the Rt. Hon. The Baroness Dean of Thornton-le Fylde.
Dean said: “We want to hear the short listed schemes analysed publically in a format which will enable delegates to assess each one against the Davies Commission’s own sift criteria. Each scheme owner will be rigorously challenged against these criteria by both a panel of independent experts and the audience.”
