Gulf Air has announced plans to increase the number of flights it operates to southern India.
Commencing on 5 December 2014, the Bahrain-based airline will increase its service to Thiruvananthapuram from five to seven weekly flights.
Ahmed Janahi, Gulf Air’s acting chief commercial officer, said the decision to increase flights followed consistently high load factors of 85% on the route.
“Following a successful year since the relaunch of our direct flights to Thiruvananthapuram in December 2013, we are delighted to announce our increased frequency that follows consistently strong passenger demand,” said Janahi.
“Kerala’s capital city will be serviced with daily Gulf Air flights in order to meet travellers’ needs, particularly those of the region’s 5.6 million strong Indian community, further reinforcing the strong historic ties between Bahrain and Kerala,” he added.
The two additional weekly flights to Thiruvananthapuram will operate on Mondays and Wednesdays, departing Bahrain at 1330 and arriving at Trivandrum International Airport at 2035. The return flights then leave at 2120, arriving back into Bahrain International Airport at 2345.
The new daily service to Thiruvananthapuram adds to the existing daily flights Gulf Air operates to Kerala’s second largest city, Kochi, plus its 10 weekly flights to another south Indian metropolis, Chennai, in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. Other Indian destinations for the carrier include Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
In total, Bahrain’s national carrier now provides a total of 57 weekly direct flights to and from India.
