Gulf Air is planning to significantly increase the number of flights its offers to Pakistan.
Bahrain’s national carrier currently operates 14 weekly services to four destinations in Pakistan – Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar. But from December 2013, this will increase 50% to 21 weekly flights. The growth has been permitted following the recent expansion of the air traffic rights agreement between Bahrain and Pakistan.
Effective 16 December 2013, Gulf Air will raise the frequency of its Bahrain-Karachi service from seven to 10 flights per week, while Islamabad will receive three flights a week, up from two. Lahore’s schedule will rise from three to four weekly flights, while the Peshawar flights will double from two weekly services to four.
“Pakistan is a key longstanding market for Gulf Air and has been one of our most successful destinations in recent times,” said Gulf Air’s acting chief commercial officer, Ahmed Janahi.
“Demand continues to grow and the additional traffic rights secured allow us to cater to this emergent market. Gulf Air operates one of the largest networks in the region and as such presents a unique advantage for our Pakistani customers to reach the Middle East and North African markets with our seamless connection via Bahrain.”
Gulf Air has been flying to Pakistan since 1972, when it first launched flights to Karachi.
