Heritage Christchurch to reopen
The Heritage Christchurch hotel will reopen on 13 May 2013.
The property, which originally opened in 1996 on the site of the 100-year-old former Old Government Building, suffered minor structural damage in the 2011 Canterbury earthquake, but has been behind the city’s red zone cordon for the past two years. During this period, the hotel has been restored and now includes a range of one- and two-bedroom suites, a restaurant, bar, health club, heated swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna.
The hotel’s former Tower Wing however, will no longer form part of the property.
“We are delighted to soon see our beloved hotel back in business and thrilled that this unique heritage building has withstood both the test of time and seismic events. We consider ourselves privileged custodians of Christchurch’s past and an important part of its tourism and commercial future,” said Gary Jarvis, the Heritage Christchurch’s GM.
Originally opened in 1913, the Old Government Building is registered as a Category One building on New Zealand’s Historic Places Trust register.
