Hertz has announced the global launch of a new service that offers self-service car rental at any time of day or night.
Initially available in the US, Europe and Australia, Hertz 24/7 will enable customers to rent vehicles near their home or work whenever need and for any length of time – hourly, daily, weekly or monthly.
Customers need to visit the Hertz website and complete the reservation process. They will then be issued with a key fob, which can be swiped against the reader on the windshield to unlock the car doors. The car keys will be tethered to the dashboard.
“Hertz is reinventing the car rental industry by putting the rental process in the hands of consumers,” said the company’s chairman & CEO, Mark P. Frissora. “Technology-enhanced vehicles will be available close to where customers live or work, making it easier than ever to reserve and quickly pick-up a rental vehicle at the customer’s convenience. Urban and suburban customers will be able to rent a much wider variety of vehicles at any hour – not just weekdays nine to five when a neighbourhood rental location is open.”
Hertz 24/7 service is already available at 1,800 locations in the US, UK, France, Germany, Spain and Australia. The company now has 35,000 vehicles equipped for 24/7 rentals, but plans to expand this to 500,000 by 2016.
