Foreigners visiting Japan or Japanese returning from holidays abroad can now hop onto a helicopter to get to town in 20 minutes, rather than the hour it now takes to travel from Narita International Airport to central Tokyo
Mori Building Co, a developer of luxury urban properties in central Tokyo, will offer the helicopter transport service from April for about JPY500,000 (US$5,100), Japan Times reported.
It said Mori Building was hoping to lure wealthy customers who visit Japan in business jets, including movie stars and business executives. The report said a number of foreign companies had shifted their Asian headquarters from Tokyo to Hong Kong or Singapore, partly because of the long commute from Narita to central Tokyo.
“Our helicopter service is necessary infrastructure for a global city,” Yoshimitsu Isoi, Executive Vice President of Mori Building City Air Services Co, the operator of the helicopter service, was reported saying. “Target customers would be those who want to buy time,” he added.
The JPY500,000 price for a one-way ride on the copter, which can transport up to four passengers, would remain the same even if there were fewer than four passengers.
