The Chinese city of Guangzhou will become home to the world’s highest observation wheel. According to a Shanghai Daily report, the new attraction will open for in time for the October National Day holidays in 2010. But the new wheel will have a slight difference from those in London, Melbourne and Singapore - it will be positioned on top of the city’s new 450-metre TV and Sightseeing Tower.
Visitors will be able to enjoy stunning views of the southern Chinese city and beyond from 16 orb-shaped sightseeing cabins running, the report said. It will take about 30 minutes for each cabin to complete the circuit.
The tower is designed to withstand earthquakes of up to eight on the Richter scale and typhoons of up to 117km/h. A lightning rod system will also be installed, the report said.
The Guangzhou TV and Sightseeing Tower will also include a large exhibition centre, 3D movie theatre and restaurants.
