Hilton Worldwide has launched a new soap recycling initiative in Singapore.

In partnership with Soap Cycling, DHL Global Forwarding and the United World College South East Asia (UWCSEA), Hilton is taking the unused soap from its hotel rooms and donating it to underprivileged communities in Asia.

Since June 2014, Hilton Singapore and Conrad Centennial Singapore have been collecting used bars of soap from guest rooms.

These bars are then picked up by DHL, which transports them to Soap Cycling’s processing warehouse in Hong Kong. There, the soap is processed into new bars of soap and then transported by NGOs to communities in the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand and other countries across Asia.

As of September 2014, there are 16 Hilton properties across Asia Pacific involved in soap recycling. Together they have collected more than 7,000kg of used soap and created more than 175,000 new soap bars.

On average, less than half a bar of soap gets used by guests at the Hilton Singapore.
