First Choice has created their very own exclusive children’s characters who will join kids all over the world at First Choice Holiday Villages and Family Choice hotels from May 2010. The ‘Widget World’ characters were designed with the help of BAFTA award-winning puppet builders, who have also worked with the Jim Henson Company, who created The Muppets.
The Widgets will be appearing in live shows and meet and greets around the hotels throughout the summer. And with more exciting, top secret Widget World fun planned in the future, kids just won’t want to leave.
The inspiration for Widget World came from those moments when you can’t quite find the words you’re looking for. The story centres around a place which is on the tip of your tongue called, Whatchamacallit and is home to the loveable widgets Gizmo, Doobley and Whatsit.
The three widgets, Gizmo, Doobley and Whatsit, busily spend their days making ‘Thingys’ by recycling stuff. The ‘Thingys’ then make things work with lots of help from Thingamajig and Thingamabob, who along with the Widgets can only be seen by animals (and the audience)!
Nothing ever runs that smoothly in life and Widget World is no exception. Evil Glitches wreak havoc in Whatchamacallit as they love to make the Widget’s Thingys go wrong and stop working. It’s left up to the audience to help the Widgets on their mission to make Thingys, before the Glitches have their wicked way.
Tommy Lynch, Lifestyle Product Development Manager for First Choice, explains “The Widgets were created to be fun, loveable characters to entertain children at our top family hotels and to teach kids to recycle and look after the planet”
He continued “It was a joy to be a part of the process of bringing the Widgets to life, and I’m confident they’re going to be a big hit. We have so much planned for our loveable Widgets in the future, so watch this space!”
