Travellers in Hong Kong book their hotels further in advance than any other nationality, a new study has revealed.
According to Agoda’s new Travel Smart study, Hong Kong travellers secure their accommodation on average 42 days – or six weeks – before their check-in date.
This puts them ahead of Taiwanese, Australian and Russian travellers, all of whom book an average of 40 days in advance. Hotel guests from the UAE are the world’s latest bookers, with an average lead time of just 12 days.
Errol Cooke, Agoda’s vice president of partner services, said that early bird bookers “may be onto something”.
“Travellers who book early tend to have a better selection of properties, and a better selection of room types. There’s always a risk that plans could change but many properties have free cancellation now, so travellers likely won’t be out of pocket if they have to,” he stated.
The global average booking lead time, according to Agoda, is 24 days. Chinese travellers are slightly ahead of this, at 32 days, while British hotel guests book 34 days in advance, US travellers book 23 days ahead and Indian travellers book 20 days in advance.
Top five: Bottom five:
Hong Kong (42 days) India (20)
Taiwan (40) Vietnam (18)
Australia (40) Saudi Arabia (17)
Russia (40) Indonesia (15)
Sweden (38) UAE (12)
