Shanghai is set to develop its Hongqiao transportation hub as the core of a massive new centre serving as the city’s gateway to the Yangtze River Delta region and beyond. According to a Shanghai Daily report, the new Hongqiao Business Park will be home to trade and finance, fast and modern air, road and rail links and social services. At a conference in Shanghai on Tuesday, city planners said that the greater Hongqiao area will become Shanghai’s third “urban circle”, following the central business district and the manufacturing and shipping zones in Pudong.
The Hongqiao Business Park will encompass the Hongqiao Airport and planned transport hub, which will go into operation before the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
