Horse-drawn buggies may ply Delhi roads again

In a move which is likely to be received with mixed feelings, Delhi could allow the use of horse-drawn buggies to woo tourists and provide additional revenue for the owners, who at present hire out the buggies for weddings. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has set up a panel to review this and if the proposal is approved, the four horse-drawn buggies may become a tourist attraction once again. The traditional two-horse drawn tonga has been phased out in Delhi after the animal lovers pleaded against it.But in most parts of the world, traditional modes like horse-drawn vehicles are still used as a tourist attraction. In Delhi, the tonga was till recently used for transport and as a tourist attraction on certain routes.According to the civic body records, there are only 138 licensed horse-drawn buggies in Delhi, but the actual number is much higher
