Hundreds rescued as snow traps cars in Xinjiang

More than 800 travellers were rescued from a highway in China’s far northwestern Xinjiang region on Monday after their vehicles became trapped by a blizzard. State news agency, Xinhua reported local officials as saying that 833 passengers in 127 vehicles were picked up on a highway in the west of the region. The major highway was closed as visibility was reduced to almost zero.
