Hurtigruten has added an additional flight from Manchester for its Norwegian Northern Lights cruise tours as a result of growing demand, the company has revealed.
The direct flight to Tromso on 17 March is being offered as an additional departure date to customers booking a 6 day ‘Arctic Highlights’ voyage. The trip includes two nights in a hotel in Tromso and a 3-night voyage from Tromso to Kirkenes and back to Tromso.
Hurtigruten’s ships travel away from the light pollution on land and directly beneath the aurora oval, making them ideal for those seeking out the natural phenomena. The season has started well, with some incredible displays already reported over the last couple of months.
The trips not only offer the chance to witness the magical light show, but allow passengers to immerse themselves in Norwegian culture and traditions. Food on-board is locally sourced and menus reflect the seasons and local recipes of the places the ships sail through. For those wanting to maximise their time above the Arctic Circle, there are excursions ranging from dog sledging to snowmobiling, a midnight concert in the Arctic cathedral or even a trip to the North Cape – Europe’s northernmost point.
The new packages cost from £859 per person including flights, hotel accommodation on bed and breakfast basis and a three-day voyage on half board basis (based on two people sharing an inside cabin). Other departure dates and regional airports are also available.
