Chairman of majority owner GMR Group’s airports business unit, Kiran Kumar Grandhi, told Flight the new airport trials began last month with employees and this month, with the public.
Construction is meanwhile continuing and is now 86 percent complete, the report said. GMR, which also leads a consortium that runs the Indian capital Delhi’s airport, says work is on schedule for end-November completion.
Flight trials should begin in February to enable the airport to be ready for its March opening.
