Tourism Minister Subodh Kany Sahay visited Agra, the iconic city of the Taj Mahal, on May 6 and heard suggestions to promote and maintain the world renowned attraction. He interacted with many stakeholders who are concerned with or involved in the promotion and maintainance of the many attractions in the city, led by the Taj Mahal.Sunil Gupta, Director, Travel Bureau, based in Agra, who heads the IATO unit in Uttar Pradesh, told a meeting of the IATO in New Delhi on Saturday, that several suggestions were made during the meetings.Among the suggesions that came up was to have separate queues for foreigners and for Indians at the Taj, as there is a differential tariff for entry. It was also proposed that those Indians who are prepared to pay the higher entry fee for the Taj be allowed to join the queue for foreigners. All the suggestions need not be accepted or implemented immediately, as many different government bodies are involved, Gupta said.A composite ticket for all attractions valid for two days was another suggestion, as was one to have e-ticketing. How best to make use of the moonlights to enable more people to view the Taj by moonlight was also discussed, with batches of 50 each being allowed in eight groups, keeping in view the security requirements.Gupta, who has been spearheading the Agra improvement efforts for decades, said that the Taj Nature Walk and the new bypass road would help tourists , as would the water sports and aquarium facilities near Agra. One immediate action that the Minister took was to waive the INR5 entry fee that was levied to visit the museum at the Taj Mahal.
