A new company marketing and helping to sell privately-owned hotels in India has been launched today. The company, named Indian Experiences, has been set up by Philippa Kaye (previously of Ampersand Travel and Partnership Travel) to promote small hotels that offer experiences or undertake eco-aware practices. “The focus is on the experience given to travellers in order to showcase the best of the local area and not just focus on the ‘tourist hotspots’,” she explained. Kaye told Travel Daily that she will spend half the year visiting agents and operators across the UK and will spend the other six months in India. She also revealed that the hotels may be featured in a brochure in the future. Indian Experiences’ hotels are already split into categories to differentiate their offering. These include new and innovate luxury hotels in the Luxury Collection; heritage hotels and lodges in the Deluxe Collection and national park lodges in the Wildlife Collection. Kaye hopes the collection will create more interest in India outside of the better-known Rajasthan and Kerala. “These destinations became well known for a reason but they are just two of 28 states,” she said.
