Construction work has started on two major new tourism and hospitality institutes in India.
The country’s Minister of Tourism, Culture & Civil Aviation, Dr Mahesh Sharma, recently laid the foundation stones for the new National Museum Institute and Indian Culinary Institute, both of which will rise in Noida, near Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sharma said that both these projects would “help train the youth to find new avenues of employment within the country”. “They will also go a long way in promoting the culture and culinary art of India,” he added.
Both projects have been in the planning for more than a decade, but the new Indian government has accelerated them as part of its focus on the tourism industry. The minister said that with India’s tourism sector expected to witness “exponential growth” in the coming years, the country would also need to create more skilled workers – something the two new institutes will seek to address.
The Indian Culinary Institute is expected to start operating in 2017, offering programmes in several subjects, including kitchen management, molecular gastronomy and food presentation. It will also include museum of traditional foods.
The National Museum Institute meanwhile, will be the first facility in the country dedicated to training young people in the conservation of art and cultural heritage. It is also expected to be completed within two years.
