India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kyrgyzstan aimed at “strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism”.
The Indian Ministry of Tourism confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the deal, which is aimed at developing the tourism industries in both countries and increasing two-way visitor flows.
Under the terms of the MoU, India and Kyrgyzstan will exchange tourism data, share best practices in the areas of marketing and destination management, establish a staff exchange programme, organise fam trips for travel agents and media, and participate in travel fairs and exhibitions.
Importantly, the two countries have agreed to invest in each other’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
Kyrgyz visitor arrivals to India remain small, but are increasing. In the first 11 months of 2016, 2,883 Kyrgyz nationals travelled to India, already higher than last year’s full-year total and more than double the number seen in 2012.
