India is likely to welcome more than seven million international visitors in 2014, as arrivals continued to rise in November.
According to the latest monthly data from the country’s Ministry of Tourism & Culture, India welcomed a total of 750,000 overseas tourists in November 2014, 2.2% more than the same period last year.
And while this growth rate has slowed compared to previous months, it was enough to boost India’s year-to-date total to 6.59 million international visitors – up 5.5% year-on-year.
This means that India now only needs to welcome approximately 400,000 visitors in December to reach the seven million mark.
The USA was India’s highest visitor source market in November 2014, accounting for 15.0% of total arrivals, followed by the UK (11.0%). Bangladesh (9.1%), Russia (5.0%), Australia (4.2%), Canada (4.1%), Malaysia (3.8%), Germany (3.4%), France (3.3%) and Sri Lanka (3.2%) completed the top 10.
India generated INR112.0 billion (US$1.8bn) in tourism revenues in November 2014, boosting its year-to-date total earnings to INR1.07 trillion.
